How to Take Care of Flowers after a Flower Delivery?

March 8, 2017

Once the flowers are delivered, you will need to take care of them so they can look beautiful for a long time. Here are some tips to help you keep your flowers look amazing long after the flower delivery.

1. Keep Flowers Away From Extreme Temperatures

Extreme temperature changes and drafts will cause your flowers to wilt. This is because any temperature changes will cause the flowers to dry out, even if they are in water. You should also remove any plastic. Plastic can limit the amount of light that the flowers get, and will cause them to wilt quickly. Try to avoid placing your flowers in direct sunlight, as direct sunlight produces heat, and causes the flowers to overheat.

2. Watering

When you get a flower delivery, you should place your flowers in a vase filled with cool water. All the stems of the flowers and foliage should be submerged. You should be checking your vase daily to see if the flowers need more water, or if the water needs to be changed. If the water is cloudy, you should change the water. If you notice dead stems and leaves, you should remove them immediately.

For flowers in baskets or containers with foam, you should add water to the arrangement every day. The foam can dry out quickly, so the flowers will need to be watered at least once per day.

3. Changing the Water

The first thing that you need to do when changing the vase’s water is to remove any dying or dead flowers. Once all the dead and dying flowers are removed, you can remove the other flowers. You should then wash the vase using soapy water and rinse it thoroughly. This will remove bacteria that can cause the living flowers to die faster. Then mix the water and the flower preservative in the vase, according to the instructions on the preservative’s packaging. If you want your flowers to last longer, then you should cut their stems on an angle with a sharp knife. Never use scissors to cut flowers since using scissors crushes the flower’s stems, which prevents water absorption. You should only take off 1 to 2 inches of the stem. The angle cut allows the flowers to absorb more water. Then place the flowers in the vase filled with cool water.

Keeping flowers looking nice after a flower delivery is not difficult. So, take a little time to find a nice spot for your flowers.  You should take care of them every day, and this will keep them fresh and looking nice for a long time.
